The Springfield City Council is looking to remove zoning restrictions on flea markets and second hand stores. Right now, those stores are limited to certain areas of Springfield like downtown and C-street. According to City Council members, there's an increase of people who want to open these kinds of stores but in places not zoned for them. They also have seen an increase in stores selling both new and used items, so they say the distinction isn't necessary anymore. Local store owners say they are seeing an increase in business.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Police say some pretty graphic video of a man berating downtown Springfield police officers can be misleading. Officers say Park Central Square is one of the safest places in the city. About two and half years ago, Springfield police decided to dedicated two squads of officers to Center City which includes the square and the rest of downtown.  That means at the very least there's seven officers and some times as many as 18 or 20 for special events like pub crawls.  We were hard-pressed to find anyone Friday who says that doesn't make them feel safe.
