SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - A mother is speaking out tonight, after her daughter recovers in a local hospital from being shot in the face. The shooting happened in southeast Springfield on Wednesday, outside a duplex. "I don't wish this on no-one but i could have lost two. Her and my grand baby," says Shantell Branyon. Braynon has not slept much in the past 48 hours. She says early Wednesday evening, she got a phone call no parent ever wants to be on the other end of. "Everything else just went blank.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - It's a program just like Neighborhood Watch, but this time police are targeting local businesses instead of homes. Officers launched Business Watch on Wednesday to help cut back on crime. Commercial Street is one place where business owners say their storefronts have been shot with BB guns. Owners also say loitering is an everyday problem. Business owners all across Springfield are hoping the new business watch program yields positive results. Officers say they'll be meeting with owners on a regular basis to talk camera security, reporting to police and looking for suspicious activity.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo A man from Springfield with a lengthy criminal history could spend up to 13 years in prison for assaulting a woman and five police officers and resisting arrest. A Greene county jury found 37 year old James Edward Scott guilty of the charges which stem from a July, 2011 incident at the Dogwood Inn. Witnesses told police say Scott dragged a woman by her arms and hit her repeatedly in the upper body. When officers tried to arrest him they say he fought and kicked them.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - It starts with congestion and sneezing and then you get a running nose and irritated eyes. Spring seasonal allergies are once again sending people to the doctor's office this week. At Ozarks Community Hospital's Primary Care Clinic in Springfield, doctors are seeing around 5 new patients a day complaining about allergies. Some people say they have never had allergies until this year. According to the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, mold is high, grass is high, tree pollen is high and weed pollen is also high.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo -- Springfield Police officers are after some new recruits -- business owners. A new program started Wednesday to teach those working downtown to watch out for crime in the area. Officers say the summer months are prime time for thieves and vandals to take advantage of warmer temperatures and large crowds. Similar to the Neighborhood Watch Program, the Business Watch Program teaches store owners and workers the skills to identify some early signs of illegal behavior.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Investigators with the Springfield Police Department are searching for two men in a shooting on the city's east side Wednesday. Police responded to the scene shortly before 5:00 p.m. in the 3300 block of East Whiteside near Glendale High School. Police say one woman was shot in the face. Several shots were fired at the woman. Neighbors say they describe the shootings as fireworks set off. Police believe one of the men lives nearby the shooting scene.

He's seen a few crashes but never seen a plane catch on fire. Even though he has never dealt with a fire in the past decade he says his team is ready. Mock airplane crashes like this one today is essential for training and keeping skills sharp. "You need to know the ends and outs of what we need to be doing in case something bad does happen.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Gas prices have climbed again in the Springfield area, with many stations reporting $3.74 per gallon of regular unleaded gas. That's a 15 cent jump from yesterday -- and it also means a gallon of gas is more expensive than a gallon of diesel fuel. The cost of gasoline in the Missouri Ozarks is also higher than the national average of $3.59 this morning. In Arkansas, the average hovers just above $3.30 per gallon. Meanwhile, the lowest gas prices in the nation can be found in South Dakota at $3.17 per gallon.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A man from Springfield and his Rotary Club are in the running for a $10,000 prize to aid an effort to keep youngsters from getting hooked on methamphetamine. The money would come from the Safeco Insurance Community Hero contest. John Horton, a past president of Rotary Club of Springfield Southeast, is one of 16 Community Hero Award winners selected nationwide by Safeco Insurance to be in the contest. Members of the public can vote online , with the winners' charities getting either $10,000 or $5,000.
