SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri State University is following new federal guidelines that call on colleges to investigate sexual harassment cases -- even if the victim doesn't cooperate. The U.S. Department of Education sent out a letter urging schools to take prompt steps to end sexual violence and prevent it from happening again. MSU's Dean of Students, Mike Jungers, says that means the school must protect the entire student body. He says continuing the investigation - with or without the victim's help - could help make sure the offender doesn't strike again.

The Missouri legislature is considering a crack-down on bullying in all its forms.  House Bill 1049 creates a statewide, uniform definition of bullying including cyberbullying.     The idea is that every school in Missouri will be able to identify the same behaviors as bullying.  Schools will have a procedure in place to address incidents, specific to that school, but the same every time.  It may mean a little extra work for districts, but for the victims it may be the key to surviving school.

In an effort to bring awareness of sexual assaults denim jeans are hanging at the Springfield Greene County Health Department's main building. Denim Day began in the 1990s in Italy when a man was convicted of raping an 18-year-old woman; that conviction was later overturned. The court declared the victim wore jeans so tight the man could not have removed them without her help... so it therefore considered her a willing participant. 2011 Springfield police data shows more than 100 reports of forcible rape.
