Tonight is looking like a summer night.  Lows will only be in the mid to upper 60's.  A lot of clouds will stream in from the west.  A complex of storms in Oklahoma may hold together and give us an isolated storm.  No severe weather is expected.  Sunday will be another hot and humid day.  Highs will top out in the upper 80's with the heat index in the lower 90's. Showers and storms will develop to the west.  These storms will arrive near 9pm for our western counties and later for Springfield.

Strong to severe storms have developed in Kansas and Oklahoma.  The main line will hold off until after 9pm but another line is developing in advance of it and is affecting extreme western Missouri as of 6:30pm.  There is a Tornado Watch until 1am for these counties. All of us are under the gun for tonight.  The best risk of severe weather will be for areas west of Highway 65. The main risk tonight will be large hail and damaging winds.  Isolated tornadoes are likely too. Flooding will become a bigger problem on Monday and Tuesday after several rounds of heavy rain.  The storms will move through for tonight then we should get a break tomorrow.  Highs will be in the lower to mid 80's.  If we get a lot of sunshine, the risk of severe weather will increase.  Either way another round of severe weather is anticipated on Monday afternoon and evening.

Extremely warm day here in the Ozarks with records falling in West Plains. They hit 90, old record was 87 from 1987. Springfield came within 1 degree at 87 with the record being 88. A cooler day is expected tomorrow as rain and clouds will be around.   Showers and storms will become likely later in the afternoon. A few could become strong, but nothing widespread is expected. Storms will be isolated in nature.   I have a bigger focus on this weekend for severe weather.

It was an awesome Friday here in the Ozarks as temperatures nudged their way to near 80 in most spots. More warm weather expected on Saturday with high temperatures heading to the mid 80's.   It is looking more and more likely that a fairly significant storm system will bring severe weather to the Ozarks as early as Sunday night and continuing through Tuesday. Current model projections are showing CAPE, or instability as high as 3000. This is VERY high and is basically the energy that fuels the storms.

The Ozarks is home to some of the most varied weather in the nation, and as a result we see more varied weather -- from lightning to tornadoes and heavy downpours -- than much of the rest of the United States. That means it's absolutely essential to be prepared for a severe weather outbreak during peak seasons. Before severe weather strikes, it is always good to review a list of essential items and prepare as necessary by taking the following steps: One of the most frequent weather events in our area are severe thunderstorms, with thunderstorm watches and warnings usually the first alerts to be issued during severe outbreaks.

More warm and muggy conditions this afternoon across the viewing area as dewpoints are in the mid 60's once again. These high levels indicate ample amounts of moisture. Look at the drop off to the west where readings are in the 20's and 30's. One word. DRYLINE. A cold front will take shape to our west tomorrow and may fire off a few storms during the day on Wednesday, but I expect most areas won't see any significant rain until Thursday. Also a few showers are possible late tonight as a disturbance runs across our western counties LATE.

Today, we are still tracking some storms to the North of highway 44. These are below severe limits...for now. Later today, that cold front will continue to work its way into the Ozarks leading into the early afternoon. This will spark sct'd showers and thunderstorms after lunchtime and possibly during the evening commute. We could see a breif break in the action, before things re-fire in the late night hours. As we head overnight , these storms will be getting more volatile, especially towards our south and west.

The city of Joplin knows all too well what the people in Moore, Oklahoma, are going through Monday night, from the fear to the tremendous heartbreak.  Emotions were already running high leading up to the two year anniversary of the EF5 tornado that killed 161, and now this--plus the continued threat of severe weather.  People in Joplin are hurting all over again.   It's like looking in a mirror; that's how Beth Newman describes watching the devastation in Moore unfold on her computer screen.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo -- With the threat of severe weather, emergency managers are urging people to have a plan if disaster strikes. Tens of thousands of people in Springfield live in apartments - and getting to the lowest floor might not be so easy. Emergency managers say make some friends, meet your neighbors and talk to your landlord. There are more than 750 apartment complexes in Springfield, and across the city you'll find many with several floors and outdoor entrances only.

It's another gorgeous start to the day in the Ozarks. We'll see plenty of sunshine in the early portion of the day, while the afternoon featuers isolated to scattered t'storms - mainly along I-70.  Some of these "popcorn" storms (typical to summertime), could produce damaging winds and small hail.  We could see up to 1/2" of rainfall, it'll just depends on your location.  As we head into Thursday, more scattered storms can be expected. Friday and Saturday should be all clear, with a pop up shower possible.

Showers and embedded thunderstorms continue to push through the Ozarks tonight. A band of moderate to heavy rain is lifting northeast with more activity developing across Oklahoma and lifting northeast as well. That next round will push in later tonight and once again bring storm chances as you sleep.   Our futurecast picks up on this next round later tonight and into early Thursday morning.   I am not concerned with any severe weather, I have given this a 2 on the threat track with mainly lightning and heavy rain being the big threats.

It has been a great start to the week with sunshine and mild temperatures. Even warmer temperatures are expected tomorrow. On Tuesday temperatures are headed into the middle 80's under full sunshine!   The next storm system arrives on Wednesday as a cold front approaches and showers and a few storms will fire up. Nothing severe expected, but a strong storm or two will be possible.   A bigger storm system is showing up in the central part of the country this weekend.
