(AP) -- Police say a man wanted for questioning in the abduction of a 4-year-old girl Missouri girl has died after shooting himself as police arrived at his home. Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Al Nothum said the man died at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Charles late Wednesday. According to the St. Louis Post dispatch, the "person of interest" was Paul S. Smith, a convicted sex offender. It was a gruesome twist to the story of Alisa Maier, who was snatched from her front yard in Louisiana, Mo., Monday night.

A Wright County woman wanted for parental kidnapping in Alaska is in jail. The US Marshals say they arrested Denise Festervand at a residence near Macomb. Marshals say Feservand, also known as Denise Ebertz, ran off with her two children in 2004. The children were aged ten and 8 at the time. Festervand is known to have moved with the children across several states including Arkansas and Missouri. Marshals say they found about 25 guns in all the doors and windows of the rural Wright County house.

A 57-year-old man sexually assaulted a girl and tried to kidnap her and another girl, Greene County prosecutors said Friday. A jury deadlocked during the attempted kidnapping trial of Randy Lee Rust. He later entered an Alford plea to statutory sodomy and attempted kidnapping; that means Rust didn't admit guilt, but acknowledged there was enough evidence to convict him of the felonies. Friday, a judge sentenced Rust to prison for 15 years.

The man and woman accused of kidnapping 5-year old Devon Denman have a preliminary hearing scheduled for next Thursday, August 5th in a McKinley County, New Mexico courtroom. Elizabeth Denman, the boy's mother and her boyfriend Mark Cochran are accused of taking the boy at gunpoint from his father. The pair were caught in New Mexico after a chase and foot pursuit where they allegedly fired shots at officers. They are facing a long list of charges, the most significant being the Kidnapping charge.

A Springfield man is in custody charged with eight felonies spawning from a Saturday night home invasion and kidnapping. Officers say 52-year-old Paul A. Williams barged into a house around 10:30 Saturday night in the 2500 block of North Main Street, pulled out a pistol and threatened to shoot everyone if his estranged wife didn't leave with him. Witnesses told police Williams fired a shot at a television to show he was serious. Officers say he then drove the woman to the Shrine Mosque saying he wanted to "just talk" to his wife before eventually calling police.

(Battlefield, Mo.) -- A warning tonight to parents of students at Wilson's Creek School. A went out to parents late Tuesday afternoon, warning of a man in a white van who has tried to pick up children in the neighborhood around the school. The first incident happened December 20th, and another last Thursday. The school is warning parents not to let their kids walk to school alone. This is the letter: Dear W.C. Parents/Guardians, The police have reported incidents of a man in a white van who has made two different attempts to pick up children in our Wilson’s Creek neighborhood.

A four year old Lebanon girl is safely back at home tonight, and two people are in custody charged with kidnapping her. The girl went missing around 1 p-m Saturday. Police say Patricia daniels and Ronald wright, who are not related to the girl, snatched her from one of the girl's relative's house and drove off in a white minivan. Authorities were able to track the couple down and rescue the girl a few hours later at a Walmart. Daniels and Wright are each being held on a quarter-million dollars bond.

A Springfield man who has fought to get his kidnapped daughter back from Costa Rica may have to wait even longer. Roy Koyama tells KSPR News the Costa Rican courts this month ordered his daughter Emily be deported back to the United States. Her mother, Trina Atwell took her to Costa Rica in 2009 claiming abuse.   We checked the Facebook page Emily's mother set up on behalf of her daughter.   She confirmed on December second that court order. (See the entry below) Over the weekend Koyama bought a $1,200 ticket for his daughter to come back to Springfield.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - It was not police, but the grandfather of one-year-old Harmony Blue who found her late Saturday night, still inside the vehicle she'd been taken in eight hours earlier. Bill Lee says he found his granddaughter inside the stolen 2002 Nissan Maxima authorities spent all day searching for at an apartment complex. It is located one mile from where his four year old grandson, Jerry, was dropped off by the kidnapper, some seven hours earlier. "We had one car. Two people, one car," says the grandparent of the victims, Bill Lee. When your child is missing, every second counts.
