SPRINGFIELD, MO - Each week the KSPR Sports Team gives you an inside look at a local high school athlete.  This week we chat with Hillcrest junior basketball player Austin Petry . Austin is a basketball junkie, but when he's not on the court he'll grab 18 holes on the golf course. "I play golf... not that great but it is just a great way for me to get my mind cleared and just have fun!" This weekend he and the Hornets are playing at the state basketball tournament at Columbia's Mizzou Arena.  The Hornets knocked off Imagine College Prep in the semifinals and will face Soldan International Studies in the class 4 championship at 8:30 pm Saturday.

Springfield, MO - Glendale senior Megan Deines verbally committed to Louisville last week.  The 6-1 point guard informed Louisville head coach Jeff Walz of her decision following her official visit on August 28th. "The next weekend I was supposed to leave for Nebraska," said Deines.  "My parents asked me what I wanted to do and I knew exactly where I wanted to go, so there was no need for me to go on my next 4 official visits. " Those visits included planned trips to Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Missouri, and Kansas State.  Deines, who goes by Lucie (her middle name)

SPRINGFIELD - Missouri State men's basketball coach Cuonzo Martin announced Monday that forward Michael Porter requested and was granted a release from his scholarship. The redshirt freshman from Sikeston, Mo., cited personal reasons for ending his association with the Bears. His announcement comes just over two months after a serious, single-car accident hospitalized him on June 9, putting his playing future in jeopardy. "Tomorrow is never promised," Porter said. "The past few months have helped me prioritize things in my life.
