Police identify couple found slain in Springfield home

Police found Jason Nickols, 41, and Doris Nickols, 51, dead in their home Monday morning.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Police have released the identities of a Springfield couple that were found dead inside their South Fremont Avenue home Monday morning.

Jason Nickols, 41, and Doris Nickols, 51, were found dead by officers conducting a wellness check just after 10 a.m. Monday.  Family members and coworkers were concerned after the two had not shown up to work.

According to Springfield police, co-workers checked the home and found mail and stacked-up newspapers, as well as both cars in the driveway.

Officers from the Springfield Police Criminal Investigation Section are treating the case as a homicide.

An autopsy is scheduled for later today for both Jason and Doris Nickols.
