STRAFFORD, Mo. - In a surprise announcement to the board of aldermen Monday night, Mayor John Vicat said he would resign as mayor.
Today, Vicat told KSPR he has served a dozen yers and it is time for him to move on and hand the reigns of the city over to someone else. He said he would hand over mayorship to Ward Two alderman Susan Krieger at the next regular board meeting.
Vicat says the city is in great shape, citing the new John Deere facility and the fact that Strafford now owns their city hall facility. Vicat said the city has grown tax revenue under his terms and is in great financial shape.
The mayor told KSPR he now has an opportunity to focus on personal issues, but declined to elaborate. He said he hopes others will step up and get involved in the process of government.
