ROGERSVILLE, Mo. - A Springfield man who was reported missing last Tuesday was found dead Wednesday, according to the Webster County Sheriff's Office.

Billy J. Harris was found north of Rogersville on Wednesday, officials said. The Webster County Sheriff's Office issued arrest warrants on Friday for Alfred Clevenger, 47, and Kevin Layton (pictured), 40, both of Rogersville, for suspected involvement in Harris' death.

Harris was found after deputies served a search warrant at a home south of Rogersville.

Clevenger has since been arrested and booked. Authorities are still looking for Dewayne Layton of Rogersville, but the press release did not state any specific reason other than "involvement in the incident."

Investigators with the Springfield Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation.

"This is evil at its core, and I don't understand why anybody would do this" said Webster County Sheriff Roye Cole.

Cole said Harris and a friend stopped by a home outside Rogersville to return a truck Harris borrowed.

Inside the home, Cole said two Dewayne and Kevin Layton were waiting for Harris. Cole said Dewayne Layton killed Harris.

"He basically took Mr. Harris to the back room and shot him," Cole said.

Cole said Harris' body was dumped in a field.

Cole said Harris had an 11-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son.
