More Wintry Weather Coming

February 09, 2012|Weather Blog | KSPR Chief Meteorologist Kevin Lighty

SPRINGFIELD, MO — Areas of light rain and a few snow showers will be possible overnight. The precip. will be very light and won't amount to much at all.

Below is a look at the mixed precip. around 4am from our model.

The precip. will come to an end early on in the day, but clouds will stick around. Highs will make it into the low 40's before dropping behind a cold front late Friday night.

It has been a mild winter, but finally some cold Canadian air is headed our way. The cold air will make a push and be here for the weekend. Lows may actually dip to single digits Saturday night.

Highs on Saturday will make it to near 30, as seen below.

A larger storm system may bring snow to the area Sunday night into Monday. The GFS bufkit is showing possible 1" to 3" of snow, but it all comes down to the thermal profiles. Warmer air is heading in and the question is how quickly does it move in.

This is a look at snowfall potential for the next storm system. Things will likely change between now and then, so stay tuned.
