SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Greene County Prosecutors have formally charged Brandon Slavens with nine crimes stemming from a high speed chase and home invasion late Thursday night into early Friday morning in Greene County. Slavens is charged with burglary, robbery, armed criminal action, felonious restraint, resisting arrest, and two counts each of assault and tampering. He's being held on a $300 thousand bond.
Slavens had been hiding at his mother's house in northwest Springfield. KSPR's Mary Moloney spoke with Slaven's mother shortly after his arrest. She says it was not her son but rather meth that was responsible for the crimes.
KSPR's Emily Rittman spoke to the grandson of the elderly couple Slavens allegedly assaulted Friday morning. The man's grandfather suffered a compound fracture in his arm and his grandmother was hospitalized with less serious injuries. Both are out of the hospital and recovering, but as of Sunday afternoon, family members tell KSPR the elderly couple is too scared to return to their home. Family members say they're happy and relieved that Slavens is behind bars.
