Nov. 3 Athlete of the Week: Evan Craig

Catholic Soccer

SPRINGFIELD, MO - Springfield Catholic soccer has an excess of talent.

“I’ve never seen a team like this," said 1st year head coach Tom Guinn.  "This is a very well rounded team.”

The Irish were 23-0-1 heading into their first district playoff game.  And junior Evan Craig made sure they got their 24th win.

“I think from the offensive point it’s probably my best game," said Craig.

Craig scored 4 goals in an 11-0 win, and that success doesn’t come as a surprise to his coach.

“Evan is consistently one of the hardest workers we have at practice and it ends up transferring onto the game field.  When you put that kind of effort out that he does, day in and day out you’re going to score goals.”

Evan Craig’s offensive outburst was just one of many great individual performances that Catholic has had this year.

“It’s just a complete team effort this year.  On the offensive side every single person is dangerous.”

“We have a Mitch Moncada, a Reid Harbach, a Reilly Harbach, a Luke Straus.  It is a team effort.”

Catholic’s last 2 seasons have ended with losses in the state championship but with Evan Craig and this talented cast, the Irish hope to get over the hump this time around.

“Has that been our goal?  Of course.  Do people expect us to do that?  Of course.”

“Having an undefeated season is great and all, but it means absolutely nothing if we don’t win a state championship.  That is our goal.”

And Evan Craig knows a thing or two about goals.  That’s why he’s this week’s Arby’s High School Athlete of the Week.
