Pink Ice for Missouri State Hockey this Weekend

Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness

Springfield, MO - The Missouri State Ice Bears and Mediacom Ice Park have turned the ice “pink” for a special Breast Cancer Awareness promotion at the Ice Bears games this weekend. Ice Bears players will also be wearing black jerseys trimmed and numbered in pink for the two games and the jerseys will be auctioned at Saturday’s game with proceeds going to fund cancer research.

Missouri State will take on the Northern Illinois University Huskies on the pink ice at Mediacom Ice Park as the Ice Bears start Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA) league play. The Ice Bears are currently 4-2-1 in the 11/12 season after splitting two games vs. University of Illinois last weekend with a 3-2 win and a 6-5 overtime loss.

The Ice Bears and Huskies face off at 7 pm, Friday, October 7th and at 7 pm, Saturday, October 8^th. The Friday, October 7th game is “Q-102 Night” with free general admission tickets distributed to selected Q 102 listeners. The Ice Bears will also be offering “2 for 1 General Admission" tickets for tickets purchased at the Mediacom Ice Park ticket sales booth. The Saturday, October 8^th game will feature the “Breast Cancer Awareness” fundraising efforts including the Ice Bears pink jerseys silent auction. In addition, it will be “Greek Night” at the game and the first 250 fraternity and sorority members wearing their greek lettered clothing will receive free general admission tickets to the game.

The Ice Bears hope to start their MACHA league 2011/12 season with two wins this weekend. The first American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Central Region rankings of the 11/12 season will be released in the coming weeks and the Ice Bears are also hoping to notch a top ten ranking. Northern Illinois University comes into the games with a 1 W – 1 L record after splitting games with Robert Morris University – Chicago last weekend. The ACHA Div. 3 (Jr. Var.) Ice Bears play their first 2011/12 season home games on the pink ice at Mediacom Ice Park taking on the Northern Illinois University Huskies D-3 team in a 9:45pm game on Friday night and again at 3pm on Saturday afternoon,10/7-8.

Reserved seats and general admission seats are available for the two ACHA Div. 2 (Varsity) Ice Bears games and doors open at 6:30 p.m. All tickets can be purchased in advance through Missouri State-TIX locations or at the games. Tickets are $8 reserve, $7 general admission for adults; $4 general admission for Missouri State students, faculty and staff and children 12 and under. Call 836-7678 for ticket information.

The Ice Bears ACHA Div. 2 (Varsity) team next games will be vs. the Loyola University of Chicago Ramblers on October 14-15^t at Centennial Ice Arena in the Chicago, ILL area.
