“As I've continued to say, the only thing worse than not raising the debt ceiling is raising the debt ceiling without putting fundamental reforms in place to get America on a path to fiscal responsibility. So far, the only plan that has been put to a vote to accomplish that goal was the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act, which the Democrat-controlled Senate voted to kill last week.
“Our problem in Washington isn’t that we’re taxing too little – it’s that we’re spending too much. Unfortunately, the President’s repeated calls for higher taxes will not encourage job creators to grow their businesses and hire more workers. If we’re going to right our nation’s economy, we must put fundamental reforms in place to rein in spending and pay down our record debt.” – U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.)
