Heavy Rains Pummel Howell County, Cause Major Flooding In West Plains

Many rounds of storms dump more than five inches of rain in a matter of hours

April 24, 2011

West Plains, MO — Extensive flooding across the Howell county area took place over the weekend. Specifically West Plains saw flooding along Howell creek which flows right through the middle of the city.

This flooding caused many roads to be closed off due to water rushing over bridges in and around the city. Some buildings were inundated with flood waters and were left with damage as debris flowed into them breaking out windows.

Radar estimates show that nearly 7” of rain fell in a short amount of time causing the flash flooding across the Howell county area.

More heavy rain is expected to bring additional flooding to the same areas over the next few days. Also severe storms will once again be likely both Today and Monday.
