Some soldiers from Fort Leonard Wood volunteered their time today to help cleanup part of Springfield.
They were met with quite a mess in the Jordan Valley West Meadows area.
75 service men and women and their families came out to pitch in.
The army's debris cleanup effort is a beginning step for the city of Springfield to use an Environmental Protection Agency grant for environmental cleanup.
Come summer, the city hopes to grade soil and put temporary seeding at the site.
