A man accused of numerous sex acts including raping an 11 year old child is going to prison for 15 years. The Lawrence county prosecutor says Kevin Padgett was married to the victim's mother when the sex acts occurred in 2007 and 2008. Prosecutor Bob George says a plea agreement meant the victim did not have to testify. FULL PRESS RELEASE: Judge Alan Blankenship, has sentenced Kevin D. Padgett, age 46, was sentenced to 15 years in the Missouri Department Corrections on eight counts of statutory rape and twenty-five counts of statutory sodomy, for the crimes involving an 11 year old victim, between September 2007 and August, 2008. The sentences are to run concurrently by agreement with the victim’s family. “My office is very pleased with the sentences received in this case.” According to Robert E. George, Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney. “The defendant was married to the victim’s mother and was able to hide this activity for over four years. Because of the graphic nature of the crimes the victim did not want to testify in front of a number of strangers. This sentence allows us to comply with the victim’s wishes and send this man to prison for a number of years.” George said. The case had been transferred from Lawrence County to Stone County at the defendant’s request. According to Information filed with the court the deviate sexual acts and rape took place between September 1, 2007 and August 18, 2008. While the victim and her family was living in Lawrence County, Missouri. “I want to commend the Aurora Police Department, the investigators with the Missouri Children’s Division, the Children’s Center in Monett, and investigators from the White County, Arkansas for their assistance in this case. Because of the quality of the investigation we were able to obtain a plea on each of the counts, without the need for the child taking the stand.” George noted.
